Frequently Asked Questions
General Product Care
How do I wash my sheet?
Washing your waterproof bed sheet is simple. Simply pop in the washing machine at a maximum temperature of 40° on a normal cycle. We don't recommend using fabric conditioner or bleach as this may degrade the waterproof layer but other washing detergent is ok to use. You can wash your sheet up to 300 times and it will still remain waterproof for this duration.
How do I remove stains?
If you get a stain on your waterproof mattress protector, we recommend using a cleaner like Vanish as you would do with other stains on clothing. You can then follow this with a normal wash. We don’t recommend using bleach or any products that contain bleach.
How do I dry my mattress protector?
Drying is quick and can be done in a number of ways. For fast drying, you can tumble dry on a low heat. Alternative methods of drying are to hang out on the washing line, on a clothes dryer or on a radiator. Make sure your bed sheet feels dry before reusing.
How many times can I wash my bed sheet?
You can wash your waterproof bed pad up to 300 times and it will still stay waterproof and absorbent.
What detergents are safe to use?
We recommend using a gentle, regular washing detergent liquid or powder that’s free from bleach or fabric softeners. These can break down the waterproof layer over time.
Fragrance-free or sensitive-skin detergents are ideal if you’re washing sheets for children or anyone with allergies. You don’t need anything fancy just your usual mild detergent will keep your waterproof Hygge Sheets® clean, fresh, and long-lasting.
How should I store my Hygge Sheets® when not in use?
Make sure your Hygge Sheets® are completely clean and dry before storing them. Fold them neatly and keep them in a cool, dry cupboard or drawer away from direct sunlight or damp areas.
If you like to keep a few spares ready, you can store them in a fabric storage bag or basket for easy access. Avoid airtight plastic containers for long periods, as fabrics need a little airflow to stay fresh.

Kids Bed Pads
What size should I buy?
Our single mattress protector fits single sized beds, toddler beds, cot beds and bunk beds. We also offer double bed pads for those children with larger beds.
How do I fit the mattress protector onto my child's bed?
Lay the sheet on top of the normal fitted sheet and tuck the flaps around either side of the mattress. Your child can sleep on top of the sheet allowing for easier bed changes in the night.
Does the sheet cover the whole bed?
Unlike conventional mattress protectors Hygge Sheets® are not designed to cover the whole bed which allows them to be changed much easier. They cover enough of the bed to protect the mattress and sheets from nighttime accidents.
How do Hygge Sheets® help with bedwetting?
Hygge Sheets® make bedwetting stress-free for both you and your child. Each sheet has a soft, absorbent top layer to soak up accidents quickly, while the waterproof underside keeps the mattress completely dry. That means fewer late night bed changes and more restful sleep for everyone. They’re also quiet, breathable, and gentle, no crinkly plastic sounds or sweaty nights, just calm, cosy comfort your child can feel secure on.
At what age should I start using bedwetting sheets?
There’s no “right” age every child develops bladder control at their own pace. Many families start using Hygge Sheets® around the potty training stage (typically ages 2–4), but they’re just as helpful for older children who occasionally have nighttime accidents. If your little one is feeling anxious about bedwetting, using a sheet early on can help take away the stress and make bedtime feel safe and normal.
Are Hygge Sheets® safe for sensitive skin?
Yes, absolutely. Hygge Sheets® are designed with gentle, hypoallergenic materials that are soft against delicate skin. The absorbent top layer draws moisture away from the surface to keep your child dry and comfortable throughout the night. They’re also free from harmful chemicals, PVC, and latex perfect for children with eczema, allergies, or sensitive skin.
Can I use the sheet during potty training?
Definitely! Hygge Sheets® are perfect for potty training. They protect the bed while giving your child the freedom to learn and build confidence without the worry. You can use them on top of the fitted sheet for quick changes just take off the wet one and replace it with a clean spare. They’re also handy for naps, sofa time, or travel when accidents are also likely.
What else could I use my Hygge Sheets® for?
Hygge Sheets® have multiple uses. They are not only great for protecting children's beds from accidents and nappy leaks, they can also be really useful for protecting your carpet and sofa when you are potty training in the daytime. In addition to this, many of our customers use Hygge Sheets® when their child is sick.
How can I help my child feel confident while using the sheets?
The most important thing is to keep things calm and positive. Let your child know that bedwetting is normal and something many kids go through, it’s just part of growing up! You can involve them by letting them choose their own Hygge Sheet® pattern, so it feels like part of their bedtime routine rather than something to be embarrassed about. Reassure them that the sheet is there to help, not to highlight a problem, it’s simply a cosy extra layer that helps everyone sleep better.
Adult Bed Pads
Are Hygge Sheets® suitable for adults with incontinence?
Yes, absolutely. Hygge Sheets® are designed to provide discreet, reliable protection for adults experiencing incontinence, post-surgery recovery or medical conditions. The absorbent top layer quickly soaks up moisture, while the waterproof backing keeps your mattress dry and fresh all night long.
Will incontinence pads hold a full wee?
Most high-quality incontinence pads can hold a full bladder release, but capacity varies by product. Light pads are designed for dribbles or small leaks, while heavy-absorbency pads and waterproof bed pads can handle a full accident. Always check the absorbency rating before buying to ensure you get the right level of protection. Our waterproof sheets are 100% waterproof and designed for maximum absorption, up to 8 cups of liquid!
Why shouldn’t I use disposable bed sheets for incontinence?
Disposable bed sheets can be very costly and also not great for the environment. Making a swap to reusable is not only better for the environment but can also save you money too! Our bamboo incontinence bed sheets washable on the other hand can be popped into the washer and dried easily. They can be used up to 300 times!
How to make reusable pads stay in place?
To keep reusable bed pads in place, choose ones with non-slip backing or tuck-in flaps that secure under the mattress.
Do you put bed sheets over the mattress protector?
No, the bamboo sheet simply lays on top of your normal fitted sheet. Then you tuck the flaps around either side of the mattress. You can then sleep on top of the sheet allowing for easier bed changes in the night.
Can urine go through a mattress protector?
A high-quality waterproof mattress protector should stop urine from soaking through to the mattress. However, if the protector is old, damaged, or not fully waterproof, urine may go through the seams or fabric. It’s important to choose a protector that’s specifically labeled “waterproof,” like ours and to follow the product care and washing instructions.
What causes adults to wet the bed?
Adult bedwetting, also known as nocturnal enuresis, can have several causes. These include urinary tract infections, sleep disorders, diabetes, stress, overactive bladder, or even certain medications. In some cases, it may be linked to lifestyle factors such as excessive caffeine or alcohol intake before bed.
What is the most common cause of bedwetting in adults?
The most common cause is usually an overactive bladder or a problem with the signals between the bladder and brain during sleep. Sometimes the bladder muscles contract even when the bladder isn’t full, leading to involuntary accidents at night.
How do you treat adult bedwetting?
Treatment depends on the cause. Common approaches include bladder training, limiting fluid intake before bed, managing stress, and addressing underlying medical issues. In some cases, medication can help relax the bladder or reduce nighttime urine production. Using waterproof bedding and absorbent products can also help manage the symptoms while you work on a long-term solution.
Can deep sleep cause bed wetting in adults?
Yes, deep sleep can contribute. Some people sleep so deeply that they don’t wake up when their bladder is full. This can happen naturally or be linked to fatigue, medications, or alcohol use. If you find you’re wetting the bed during periods of deeper sleep, it’s worth discussing with your doctor.
When should I go to the doctor for bedwetting?
If bedwetting happens more than occasionally, or if it’s new for you as an adult, you should speak to your GP. They can rule out underlying conditions like diabetes, urinary tract infections, or sleep disorders. You should also seek help if you notice pain, excessive thirst, or sudden changes in urination habits.
How is adult bedwetting diagnosed?
Diagnosis usually starts with a medical history and a discussion of your symptoms. Your GP may ask about lifestyle factors, medications, and family history. Tests may include urine samples, bladder function tests, or sleep studies to pinpoint the cause.
Can stress make you wet the bed as an adult?
Yes, emotional stress and anxiety can contribute to adult bedwetting. Stress affects hormone balance and bladder control, sometimes leading to nighttime accidents. Managing stress through relaxation techniques, therapy, or lifestyle changes can help reduce episodes.
What can a GP do for incontinence?
A GP can help identify the cause of incontinence and recommend treatment options. These may include medication, bladder training exercises, pelvic floor therapy, or referral to a specialist such as a urologist. They can also provide advice on lifestyle changes and recommend suitable incontinence products.
